Beginning Strings Class
Meeting Tuesdays: 5:00-5:50p.m.
Fall 2024: September 10 – December 10, 2024 (no class November 26)
Winter Concert December 10 @6p.m. at 6:00p.m.
The Beginning Strings class is for students with no previous experience playing violin or viola. Students will learn correct posture, technique, and how to read notation while making music with their peers. Parents are also invited to learn along-side their children.

Continuing Strings Class
Meeting Tuesdays: 5:00-6:00p.m.
Fall 2024: September 10 – December 10, 2024 (no class November 26)

This class is for students who have taken our beginning orchestra or early intermediate orchestra class and are ready for the next level of instruction. Students continue to practice reading notation and playing parts independently in a group ensemble. This course will focus on skills needed to refine musical development including the use of vibrato, performing extreme dynamics, shifting into 2nd and 3rd position, and playing 2 octave scales. Students will perform music requiring increased technical skill, improve sight reading skills, and prepare for entry into higher level ensembles.

This class is for students who have no experience playing the violin and would like to learn.
Resonance Ensemble
Meeting Tuesdays: 6:00-7:00p.m.
(Prerequisite: Teacher Recommendation)

Students will perform music requiring increased technical skill, and improve sight reading skills. The repertoire will include a mix of pop, contemporary, and classical music.

Students will perform music requiring increased technical skill, improve sight reading skills, and prepare for entry into higher level ensembles.
Jesse L. Suggs, Jr. Chamber Ensemble

This ensemble is for students who have advanced technical skill, refined vibrato, demonstrate mastery shifting in 3rd-6th positions, and fortitude to practice on their own. Students are expected to practice and perform at a high level. At least 2-3 additional hours of practice is expected per week outside of class to master advanced chamber and orchestral literature written by diverse composers.

WFCYO’s Advanced Chamber Orchestra is for students who have experience playing in advanced string duos, trios, and quartets. Students enrolling in this class must have advanced technical skill, refined vibrato, mastered shifting in 3rd-6th positions, and fortitude to practice on their own.
